YOUR MARE'S IMPENDING VISIT - SOME HELPFUL ADVICE
Sending your mare away to a stud with the anticipation of having her covered by your favourite stallion is a very exciting prospect, but one that requires a degree of planning and preparation.
The following notes identify important procedures to be aware of to ensure a smooth ride at Stud.
Previous to your mare arriving at Stud:
Mail, fax or email your signed Stallion Contract and Application forms to Blue Gum Farm. Check over the documents carefully, ensuring the agreed price, stallion and mare details are correct. If you have not received your contract in the mail within a few days of making your booking, please contact the office to arrange a copy to be sent out to you.
Mail your mare’s Document of Description or Thoroughbred ID card to the Farm Office, via Registered Post so that it can be tracked if required.
Contact the Stud Office to advise when you are likely to be sending your mare. N.B. - Dry mares or Maiden mares are required to be on the farm prior to August 1, allowing for the most effective preparation coming into the breeding season, and hence the earliest possible cover for your mare. In Foal mares should ideally arrive no later than 30 days prior to their expected foaling date.
Contact your preferred transport company to arrange pick up and delivery of your mare. Ask the transport company to advise Blue Gum Farm of an approximate arrival time, and please advise the Stud office yourself also.
Your mare at Blue Gum Farm:
You will be sent several communications throughout your mare’s time with us at Blue Gum Farm. Depending upon which communication option you chose on your Application Form, information will be sent out via post, email or fax regarding your horse’s arrival, foaling, covers, scan results, and departure.
The most efficient method to receive these notifications is via email or fax, as with the post you may not find out until a day or two after the event has occurred.
Rest assured that you will always be contacted personally by a Blue Gum Farm staff member when your mare foals. In the unlikely event of your mare sustaining an injury or becoming ill, you will also be contacted personally.
Please feel free to contact the Stud office regarding any questions you may have about your mare’s progress, or to request a photo of your mare or foal.
Departing Blue Gum Farm:
Your mare and foal are always welcome to stay at the farm for as long as you wish. However if you would like to take her home after her final 45 day positive scan, please give the Stud office a minimum of 24 hours notice and she will be prepared for departure.
Contact your preferred transport company to arrange pick up and delivery of your mare. Ask the transport company to advise Blue Gum Farm of an approximate departure time, and please advise the Stud office yourself also.
