GRUENFELD STRIKES

The Mick Price trained Gruenfeld confirmed his trainers high opinion of him in stunning fashion with a crushing eight-length stroll in a 1000 metre 2yo Maiden at Ballarat on Sunday to credit Elvstroem with his sixth winner.

Unfazed by the heavy track, Gruenfeld (2 c Jewel Theft, by Jade Robbery (USA)) was always travelling strongly and he came right away in the straight to defeat Guffaw (Happy Giggle) with the favourite On Your Mark (More Than Ready) a further 2 ½ lengths back in third.

An encouraging fourth behind the Group 1 winner Reward For Effort when backed in to favouritism in the Blue Diamond Preview (Listed) on debut at Caulfield in January, Gruenfeld resumed with a close up fourth at Bendigo on June 21.

An $80,000 purchase by his trainer from the Baramul Stud consignment at the 2008 Magic Millions Yearling sale, Gruenfeld is closely related to the Group 2 winner Magically.

Elvstroem now has six winners from his first-crop and a place in the top 10 by earnings. He has an impressive strike-rate of 22.22 per cent winners to runners, headed by the Listed winner Carrara and with metropolitan winners in four states.
