Given time to settle by Craig Newitt, Don Jose was travelling strongly in behind the leaders prior to the home turn and then lengthened powerfully in the straight to win going away.

A $160,000 Melbourne Premier yearling when consigned by Blue Gum Farm, Don Jose is a half-brother to Flemington Listed winner Umaquest (Umatilla), their dam the Listed-placed Carmenesque.

Mick Price is a great supporter of Blue Gum Farm and he obviously knew what he had on his hands as he was back again at the Premier Sale this year to purchase the yearling sister to Don Jose for $50,000.

Bred by Margaret Campbell in partnership with Philip and Patti Campbell, Don Jose has helped push Elvstroem’s seasonal earnings to $174,600 - a clear leader of Second-crop sires in Victoria and ahead of Al Maher, Charge Forward, Not A Single Doubt and Shamardal overall.
