11th March 2011
The dust has settled on the 2011 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale with the Blue Gum Draft enjoying a very successful sale. Of high interest to us was taking the second crop of Churchill Downs to the sale ring, his progeny didn't dissapoint.
Momentum is a wonderful thing whether it be racing, breeding, sport, business, life in general. Churchill Downs has that at the moment and he continues to build on this momentum. In 2010 he had 49 yearlings sell Australia wide at auction at an average price of $37,643 (Excl GST), this was off a service fee at conception of $12,000 (Excl GST). However these numbers probably dont tell the true story about the quality of his stock and the matching opinions of those who were successful in acquiring such stock.
Notable Churchill Downs Yearling Prices from 2010:
Dr KC Yeoh $150,000 - Melbourne Premier
Mark Pilkington $140,000 - Melbourne Premier
Anthony Cummings $135,000 - Melbourne Premier
Shane Fliedner $110,000 - Melbourne Premier
Steve Richards $80,000 - Melbourne Premier Session II
Grahame Begg $70,000 - Inglis Classic Sale
Robert Price $70,000 - Melbourne Premier
Shane Fliedner $70,000 - Melbourne Premier
Roy Higgins & Wylie Dalziel Racing $65,000 - Melbourne Premier
Since then we have begun to see this first crop hit the race track with considerable promise. Emerald Downs, Bladon and Besa Bola have all shown considerable talent at Metropolitan race tracks. So as you can see the momentum has continued to build and this was once again the case last week in Melbourne at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale. After withdrawals Churchill Downs had 26 yearlings go under the hammer, 24 (92.30%) of these found new homes at an average price of $50,687 (Excl GST). Not only were vendors extremely happy with such figures but what about breeders who sent mares to him at the time of conception in 2008 at a service fee of $10,000 (Excl GST).
