It is not easy to win your first race start then back up against tougher opposition, just eight days later, and win again. It is even more difficult to do so if you are only a two year old! But that is exactly what trainer Colin Little’s very talented Turffontein filly Safariann has done recently.
After scoring a runaway victory over 1100 metres at Geelong on May 29, Safariann (pictured on the inside) stepped up to Saturday class over 1200 metres at Moonee Valley on June 6 and provided the same result. The way she attacked the line under champion jockey Damien Oliver to catch Godolphin’s last start winner Alucinari (Street Cry) close to the line proved that this was a filly with a real future.
Purchased by the very astute Adrian Hancock at the 2014 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale, Safariann has already repaid her connections some $84,300 in stakes with the promise of much more to come. She is the third 2YO winner for Turffontein this season, the others being the multiple Group winner Fontiton and the Brisbane winner Faint Blaze.
Turffontein is proving very popular for the coming breeding season at the very affordable price of $10,000 + GST. With just two crops of racing age, Turffontein’s progeny earnings this season alone are now though $1,839,000.
