Blue Gum Farm shuttler Canford Cliffs (IRE) had an impressive winner at the weekend in Ireland Most Beautiful scoring a stylish victory at Navan.
The David Wachman-trained filly, who had finished a promising fourth on her racecourse debut, is now set to step up to Group company after scoring comfortably under Wayne Lordan.
"We always thought a lot of her and she’d shown us plenty,” said Wachman. "She is maybe still a little weak, but she’s very big so she is entitled to be. Soft ground caught her out on her first outing, she just got a little tired, but it was a nice introduction.
"There’s a Group 3 for her on Derby weekend (G3 Grangecon Stud Stakes) if she’s OK but really she’s one for the second part of the season and next year. She has plenty of natural ability. I’ve got a couple more by Canford Cliffs who look nice horses.”
Lordan was similarly impressed with his mount and added: "This is a nice filly going onwards. She travelled very easily and she works really well at home. We just do casual work with her and I felt she might be a little weak so another month or so will do her a lot of good.
"I thought she was going to win first time but, when I asked her a question, we hadn’t gone five strides before I knew she wasn’t handling the ground and got tired, so that was a nice debut.”
Most Beautiful is the fourth winner for Canford Cliffs, who is now listed by Bookmakers RaceBets at 6/4 (from 2/1) to be leading UK/Ireland first-season sire of 2015.
His first Australian runners will hit tracks in the new season.
