Another Blue Gum Farm success in South Africa

Killua Castle demonstrated why he is a live chance in the upcoming Group One J&B Met later this month when taking out the Group Three London News Stakes (1800m) in South Africa yesterday. After narrowly missing in the Group One Sansui Summer Cup at his previous start, Killua Castle was not going to be denied in the London News and won comfortably by two and a half lengths.

Trained by Champion South African trainer Geoff Woodruff, Killua Castle has now won 5 races and placed a further 15 times from his 32 starts which has provided his connections with earnings of R1,705,425.

Killua Castle was bred by our dear friend, the late Kevin Heffernan, whose family are still wonderful supporters of our farm. He was purchased from our draft at the 2011 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale by Paul Guy’s Heritage Bloodstock for $50,000.

Killua Castle is by former Blue Gum Farm stallion Churchill Downs out of the unraced Encosta De Lago mare, Prayers‘N’Promises. Prayers‘N’Promises, a full sister to Group III winners Besame Mucho and Gold Lottey, has a yearling colt (pictured) to be offered at the 2015 Melbourne Premier Yearling sale by All American. She currently has a colt foal at foot by World Champion Miler Canford Cliffs (IRE) and is safely back in foal to Melbourne Cup winner Fiorente (IRE).
