This year’s yearling sales in Europe are now under away with the Arqana Yearling Sale at Deauville in France commencing last weekend. World Champion Miler and five time Group One winner Canford Cliffs was represented by two yearlings in the first session.
On the back of some excellent foal sale results late last year, Canford Cliffs first yearling to enter the sale ring was a filly out of the stakes winning Cape Cross mare Rainbow Crossing. Despite being Lot 1 in the catalogue, this half-sister to the stakes placed winner Rime a Rien was the medium of a spirited bidding duel before eventually being knocked down to the Mandore International Agency for €160,000 (AUS$230,000). Mandore International Agency has had excellent results over the past couple of months with Group One Lockinge Stakes winner Olympic Glory and Group One Queen Anne Stakes winner Toronado being purchased through them. Obviously a very good eye for a horse!
A little later in the session, Canford Cliffs final lot though the ring was a filly out of the winning, group placed Elusive City mare Elusive Galaxy. Speaking of a very good eye for a horse, this filly was knocked down to Magnier/ Michael Vincent on the behalf of Coolmore Stud for €125,000 (AUS$179,700). No doubt she will be given every opportunity to succeed on the race track.
Canford Cliffs has arrived in magnificent order back here at Blue Gum Farm to commence his third southern hemisphere season. Please feel free to contact Chris Kent here at the farm to arrange your inspection of the World Champion Miler.
