Leading Trainers Seek out Progeny

At yesterday’s Inglis Select VOBIS GOLD Sale at Oaklands Junction, the progeny of Blue Gum Farm resident stallions Turffontein and Red Arrow where snapped up by two of the state’s leading trainers.

Group One trainer of the moment Darren Weir was able to secure two fillies by current leading Victorian First Season Sire Turffontein. Interesting to note that Weir has three, as yet unraced two year olds by Turffontein. After purchasing a filly out of the General Nediym mare Dancing With Amy early in the day, the Weir team was able to secure the last lot of the session, a filly from the Real Quiet mare Unshushable  (pictured). A smart, precocious looking type, this filly is a result of the remarkably successful Johannesburg - Mr Prospector cross that has produced Group/Grade 1 winners Scat Daddy, Trinniberg and No Nay Never amongst a host of other international stakes winners.

Our superbly bred son of Red Ransom, Red Arrow, was only represented by one yearling at the sale but he was another very nice yearling by this stallion. Out of the Spinning World mare Ku De Tah, this colt caught the eye of leading trainer Robert Smerdon and will obviously get every chance to succeed from the Aquanita Racing base. At this year’s Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, Smerdon bid $110,000 for the magnificent Turffontein – Personal Ensign filly.

With leading trainers continually purchasing their stock, the road ahead looks promising indeed for both Turffontein and Red Arrow.
