Hucklebuck is Australian Guineas bound following an impressive return to action at Morphettville on Saturday, one of four winners on the day for jockey Dom Tourneur.
Making his first start since finishing runner-up to Paximadia in the Group III Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on November 1, Hucklebuck carried top-weight of 59.5 kilograms and was conceding at least three kilograms to all his rivals but it made no difference.
Slowly away in the Dominant Handicap (1200m) for three-year-olds, Hucklebuck found himself further back than intended by Tourneur but his class shone through.
Tourneur seized the initiative and made a quick move around the field on the son of Elvstroem to sweep to the front before the home turn and Hucklebuck was clear into the home straight.
Kushadasi came with a challenge inside the final 100 metres but Hucklebuck was always holding sway and on the line defeated Kushadasi by ¾-length and completing the 1200 metres in 1:09.62.
Trainer Philip Stokes confirmed Hucklebuck was now headed to Melbourne where his main aim is the Group I Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington on March 1.
Hucklebuck is on fourth line of betting at $11 with Sportsbet for the Australian Guineas, Saturday's impressive Caulfield winner Bull Point is at $9 behind the current $8 favourite Shamus Award.
