Australian bred speedster Amber Sky (Exceed And Excel – Truly Wicked by Rubiton) had a very successful Australia Day on Sunday bolting away with the Hong Kong Group 1 Kent & Curwen Centenary Cup over 1000 metres at Sha Tin.
Bounding straight to the front, Amber Sky never gave any of his rivals a look in clocking a very quick 55.86 seconds in Hong Kong’s premier straight course event.
Amber Sky was bred by OE & DR Pope Pty Ltd and was purchased by trainer Ricky Yiu for $80,000 at the 2011 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale. He was the Hong Kong Champion Griffin in 2011-12 after consecutive victories as a two year old, including a Class 3 event against older gallopers. From 13 career starts now Amber Sky has won six and been placed another three times. His astute trainer is now considering the Hong Kong Chairman’s Sprint Prize before a possible trip to Dubai for the Group 1 Al Quoz Sprint.
At the upcoming Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, Blue Gum Farm will be offering a Lonhro half sister to Amber Sky as Lot 615. A good strong filly with terrific length, this filly should ensure that there is a good crowd in attendance all the way to the end of the session 1 section of the sale on Tuesday the 4th of March. Blue Gum Farm are also offering a further four yearlings out of Rubiton mares, all of which were either stakes winners themselves or are dams of stakes winners.
Last Spring Truly Wicked produced a cracking full sister to Amber Sky and she is safely back in foal to Exceed and Excel.
