Following on from the excellent results attained at the Goffs Foal Sale in Ireland (see last week’s story), first crop foals by World Champion Miler Canford Cliffs were once again in high demand at the recently completed Tattersalls Newmarket venue.
The average price of 42,460gns (A$80,000) for foals at this year’s four day Tatts sale was up 25% on 2012. Canford Cliffs had 11 lots sell at the very healthy average of 72,545gns (A$136,697).
The top price for a Canford Cliffs foal was 180,000gns (A$339,177) given by BBA Ireland for a bay filly out of the Stakes winning Danehill Dancer mare Lady Eclair. Other top prices were 100,000gns ($188,431), 92,000gns ($173,357), 90,000gns ($169,588), etc., but as was the case at Goffs, the identities purchasing the Canford Cliffs foals was the most pleasing thing.
BBA Ireland ended up purchasing two on behalf of clients as did Hugo Merry Bloodstock who parted with 70,000gns and $65,000gns for a colt and a filly by the Royal Ascot Wonder. Amanda Skiffington purchased the 92,000gns colt and Yeomanstown Stud followed up their purchase of a filly at Goffs with the 90,000gns colt at Tatts.
Canford Cliffs is currently putting the finishing touches on his second Australian book of mares here at Blue Gum Farm before heading back to Ireland for the northern season. We now anxiously await the weanling sales here in Australia next year!
