It’s not often that a stallion whose last crop are 8 year olds has a winning double but that’s exactly what Rubiton did on Saturday. The Darren Weir trained Gotta Take Care notched his 16th career victory and took his earnings beyond $720,000 when he saluted at Moonee Valley in great style on Saturday. Meanwhile Ruby Spy won her fifth race at Tuncurry.
Bred and owned by the Wood family, 9 year old Gotta Take Care was born and reared at Blue Gum Farm and has now won his last two starts and it looks as though there is still more in the tank. He is a great credit to Darren and his team, the Wood family and the much loved Rubiton. Rubiton, hero of the 1987 WS Cox Plate, proved an outstanding sire producing 43 stakes winners and the winners of over 1900 races. The Wood family still owns his dam Cellar Dweller who has also left the Hobart Cup winner Gotta Keep Cool. She is in foal to Reset and is booked to Blue Gum Farm’s 5 time Group 1 winner Canford Cliffs.
