Last week was a fantastic week for the progeny of Elvstroem. Eight winners in seven days included Kullu, easy winner of the Gold Club Metropolitan Trophy (LR) over 2500 metres at Riccarton in New Zealand, who become his sire's third stakes winner for the current season and ninth stakes winner overall.
Part of the card on New Zealand 2000 Guineas day, the Metropolitan Trophy was contested by 15 this year. The other starters did not see too much of Kullu however as he took off with dashing 'catch me if you can' tactics to set up a big lead mid race. He still held a convincing eight length margin over the rest of the field at the end of the testing staying trip.
Back here at home Elvstroem had seven winners last week including the full relations Valrouz and Alrouz who both won at Moonee Valley. Not only was this a terrific result for Elvstroem but also for highly respected trainer Doug Harrison who not only trained the pair but also bred them. Doug's former high class racemare Fayrouz (by Sovereign Red) is the dam of Valrouz and Alrouz and another very talented Melbourne winning Elvstroem mare in Deliver The Dream. What a wonderful mating this has been. Interesting to note that Valrouz and Deliver The Dream are the girls from the matings and both are chestnuts. No doubt Doug is very much looking forward to this years foal from Fayrouz, another chestnut filly by Elvstroem born on 19/10, gracing the racetrack in years to come. No doubt also that he will once again place both Valrouz and Alrouz to advantage very soon!Back
