Stakes winner #8 for Elvstroem

Spring is a fantastic time of the year in the thoroughbred world. So much anticipation in racing and breeding circles, not the least of which surrounds the new seasons two year old racing. The very first two year old stake run this season was the Keeneland Gimcrack Stakes at Randwick. Eleven royally bred fillies faced the starter for this 1000 metre test and it was Brilliant Bisc, a daughter of the great Elvstroem, that jumped straight to the front and gave her rivals a galloping lesson.

Brilliant Bisc was the youngest filly in the race, she is not actually two until October 24, but this counted for little as her professionalism and raw ability came to the fore. Beautifully judged by jockey Josh Parr, Brilliant Bisc sailed home by a length and a quarter from the Exceed and Excel filly Guelph with Fastnet Rock filly Shahad a further length and three quarters back in third. Brilliant Bisc covered the trip in a zippy 57.82 seconds, over half a second quicker than the time taken by Whittington in winning the colts equivalent, the NSW Thoroughbred Breeders Plate...read more
