Broodmare checklist

We suggest that a month prior to foaling is advisable to have her at Blue Gum Farm.

Owners planning to transport their Broodmares to Blue Gum Farm for the current season can provide some valuable information prior to your mare’s arrival that will speed her progress into the farm’s wider horse population. The most crucial details we will need are the dates of her last vaccinations for tetanus and strangles and the date of her last drench. Traditionally we have asked clients to supply the mares document of description (or passport), which aside from identifying the mare was later signed by the studmaster to confirm that a mare was first covered on a particular date. With the advent of the Stud Book website this practice has been superseeded with much of a mares identification being done on-line.

Other considerations are your mares due date and to not leave her transportation for foaling down too late. We suggest that a month prior to foaling is advisable to have her at Blue Gum Farm. With regards veterinary bills we still have the same system in place. Dr Angus MacKinnon does all the reproductive work on site and all vet bills are sent out via his and Dr Jim Vasey’s Goulbourn Valley Equine Hospital. As such there is no double handling of veterinary bills and you only pay for the attention your mare requires. If you have any questions or wish to view our facilities or stallions, please don’t hesitate to contact our office during business hours.
