Inkster update

“I can picture her going through in the better staying races, probably not winning but running well, then getting into the Melbourne Cup at Flemington and running in the first five because she is going to chew two miles,”

Blue Gum Farm home-bred Inkster is making positive steps towards her goal of lining up at Flemington on the first Tuesday in November. Sent to Sandown on September 17 for her second start this campaign, the imposing Umatilla mare saluted over 2,400 metres and once again impressed her trainer Mick Price in the process; “I hadn’t really trained her to win today but she has done it. I thought the jump from 1,700 metres to 2,400 metres second up against an in-form mare was a bit of an ask but she is just such a good, clean winded stayer”

With just eight career starts and three wins to her name, the half-sister to the six-time city winner Sorenstam is fully qualified for the Melbourne Cup thanks to her victory in this years VRC St Leger over 2,800 metres. She must now continue to climb the order of entry to guarantee herself a Cup start in which she has been weighted at 50 kg’s. “I can picture her going through in the better staying races, probably not winning but running well, then getting into the Melbourne Cup at Flemington and running in the first five because she is going to chew two miles,” added Price. Inkster’s next scheduled start is in the 2,500 metre Bart Cummings at ‘Headquarters’ on Turnbull Stakes day.
