Aquanita Charity Golf Day

On the day $5,000 was raised for the National Ovarian Cancer Network for which more information can be found on their website - www.ovca.org

For the seventh year on end, players at the Aquanita Racing Charity Golf Day were treated to glorious weather at Melbourne’s Latrobe Golf Club. This year, 80 golfers of varying abilities competed for the coveted Blue Gum Farm Elvstroem Cup.

Show bags full of goodies from the generous sponsors were handed out, including the much sought after Aquanita Golf Day shirts, caps and stubby holders. All of which were quickly put to good use! The sun shone brightly as everyone enjoyed the gourmet BBQ and savoured an hour or so to mingle and network with fellow racing participants. As the field headed off, there was much speculation about who would take away this years Cup with many suspecting that last year’s group, led by long time Aquanita owner John Rothfield (aka Dr Turf) had one hand already on the cup.

Close but no cigar, The Blue Gum team comprised Wood Nook Farm’s Bob Norris, Wangaratta College Of TAFE’s Ian Horwood, Ray White Real Estate’s Seymour dynamo Michael O’Sullivan and Blue Gum’s Philip Campbell.

Winners of this years Ambrose Competition however were the team from Sport 927 led by Simon Gitsham. He along with playing partners Robert Davin, Peter Nicolas and Jeff Davies finished with 62 off the stick for a final net total of 54.5. A fantastic score and a well deserved win for the boys who are also Aquanita owners. No doubt they will be back to defend the title next year.

After the round, players showered, changed and quenched their thirsts before moving onto the clubhouse part of proceedings, the Charity Auction and dinner. Host Rob Gaylard interviewed some of the days guests including Colin Little, trainer of this years Cox Plate winner El Segundo, AFL Legend Wayne Schimmelbusch, about the Kangaroos future and our own Philip Campbell about the effects of EI on Victorian Breeding. Karen Livingstone CEO of this year’s charity “National Ovarian Cancer Network” gave a moving speech on ovarian cancer and the affects this disease has had on her family and on women in general. There is no doubt that Aquanita had chosen a very worthwhile group to support again this year!

A great day was had by everyone who attended and thanks to the Latrobe Golf Club for presenting the course in magnificent condition. Thanks also to the major sponsors for the day, Menere’s BMW Brighton, Blue Gum Farm, Mornington Stock Feed, TVN, Le Pine Funeral Services and Southern Cross Stockfeeds as well as the host of individual hole sponsors.
